Taha Hussein became the first Minister of Education to establish Alexandria University as an independent institution after its initial foundation as Fouad University's satellite campus (later renamed Cairo University).

Founding and Evolution
Alexandria University's establishment history began in 1938, with its foundation as a Cairo University branch, which initially operated under the faculties of arts and law. The institution gained independence in 1942, and King Farouk of Egypt provided its name, which became Farouk I University.
After the 1952 Egyptian Revolution, the educational institution was called Alexandria University. The institution has grown throughout the years to maintain 24 faculties and institutes that now deliver an extensive selection of arts and sciences, engineering, and medicine programs.
