The European historical institution Jagiellonian University in Kraków preserves its extensive historical legacy through comprehensive archival collections. Historical Collections The Jagiellonian Library maintains an extensive collection which features numerous priceless materials among them: The library maintains a substantial collection of manuscripts totaling 24,000 items and early printed books, reaching 104,000 items featuring critical historical and cultural works.Special Collections features original Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart autographs, Nicolaus Copernicus's De revolutionibus manuscripts, and early editions of distinguished Polish authors. Digital Preservation Efforts JU has launched various digitization programs to improve access to valuable heritage collections.The Jagiellonian Digital Library (JBC) was founded in 2010 to deliver electronic versions of manuscripts, books, and periodicals that are available to readers worldwide.The Patrimonium project (2017–2020) combined the National Library of Poland with JU to digitize and make the most important Polish written sources free.The Jagiellonian University Museum, Archives, and Library collaborate to digitize cultural heritage collections and develop complete metadata models that feed into a linked data cloud system. Student Contributions The JU student body participates in projects that add value to the university's historical heritage.Students participate in multiple research activities to study historical materials, which expands the university's digital archive collection.Students support the digital humanities initiatives by helping with digitization tasks, metadata development, and digital tool creation to preserve JU's historical cultural heritage.
